Predicting oil spill movements is essential for mitigating environmental and economic impacts. This process uses mathematical and computational models that consider ocean currents, tides, wind, and the physical and chemical properties of the spilled oil. Real-time meteorological and oceanographic data are used to simulate the oil’s trajectory and behavior. Accurate predictions enable timely and effective response efforts, such as deploying containment equipment and applying dispersants, thereby minimizing environmental damage and cleanup costs.
